Bridal shoes: glass slippers or comfortable shoes?

Stress is often the first word that comes to mind when you think of planning your wedding. After all, there's a reason why the term 'bridezilla' was coined. As a bride, I vowed not to turn into one of those brides and thankfully I didn't (at least I don't think so). Of course there were some stressful situations, but I have to say that I had the most fun planning my wedding. As someone who works at an internet company, I dutifully used a slew of websites and apps to the point where I felt like I was working towards a product launch. (Google Docs & Spreadsheets are lifesavers)

In terms of online shopping for my wedding, I bought a couple things online - my bridesmaids' dresses and shoes. Shoe shopping was tricky for me because my feet are small, wide, and aren't fans of wearing high heels.

Shoe shopping advice
While online shoe companies often carry shoes categorized as 'bridal,' don't feel restricted to that. Any nice dressy shoe will do. You can even wear sneakers or flip flops under your dress if you like since most likely people won't even see your shoes. However, many brides do choose to wear heels so that their dresses won't drag too much on the floor. And if you're going to wear heels, you might as well wear something cute! I chose Touch Ups Divine by Benjamin Walk in silver.

The best part - I've been able to wear them even after my wedding. They go nicely with jeans and hold up well for a night out on the town!
What to look for in buying shoes online
I rave about Zappos - they have a great selection of shoes and even greater customer service. Specifically, I was looking for:
  • Free shipping on all orders. Whether you get lucky and find the pair you want on your first try or need to purchase 8 pairs of shoes so you can check them out in person, Zappos covers the shipping costs.
  • 365-day return policy. Zappos includes postage and return labels in case your purchase doesn't work out. Take advantage of this - you can buy a number of shoes and then once you find a pair you like, simply return the rest.

Editor's Note: We encourage you to look for these two policies when buying shoes online, whether on Zappos or elsewhere.
