I was looking for something simple and sleek for my bridesmaids and ideally a style they could wear again. No ugly, gaudy bridesmaid dresses at my wedding! I spent a lot of time comparing dresses online.
Since I wanted my bridesmaids to actually like their dress, I found a couple styles and emailed them pics of the dresses. I've included the winner from Ann Taylor with ivory silk sashes that I bought separately.
Since I was purchasing these (around Nov/Dec) in time for our wedding in March, my guess was that Ann Taylor was trying to clear their inventory before the wedding season began. This is one of the benefits of getting married in the off-season, (which March definitely is), and I got a great deal on the dresses.
Editor's note: Christine's two-fold advice is very sound. 1) Make sure to spend time comparing dresses online with your bridesmaids to make sure everyone is happy with the dress selections. 2) To find discount bridesmaid dresses online, make your purchases in the off-season, which varies by retailer but typically tends to be the fall/end of the calendar year before new styles come out for the following year
